56 Bruce St S Thornbury Ontario
56 Bruce street south in Thornbury has been fully renovated with a large addition on the east side of the original structure. The owners installed all new electrical, plumbing mechanical (heating and air conditioning) and kitchen and bathroom fixtures throughout the home They also upgraded the insulation with spray foam and regular bat type. The building was originally built in 1889 and is one of the older structures on Bruce street. Its unfortunate that the builder did not consider a red brick cladding like some of the more exquisite homes along Bruce street. The owners created a mix of modern and traditional with their use of wood trim, flooring and fixtures that can be found through the home.

The original home had 3 bedrooms with an  earth floor storage room off the back yard. Not a huge selling feature in today’s market. The owners removed this old structure and added close to 1200 square feet with a lower level family room, an open concept kitchen and living room on the main floor with bedrooms in the upper level. It was decided that a main floor master bedroom was a must for the home.
The main floor has an open concept kitchen with a huge quartz island and all of the expected fixtures that would go along with a home of this stature including a heating oven. The living space has a natural gas fireplace and an sliding door exit to a large deck overlooking the 200 foot private lot. The main floor has a large pantry and a 2 piece bathroom for guests. The owners created a generous main floor master bedroom, large closet and three piece ensuite with heated floors, a floating vanity, custom tile work and a spa like shower. The space could easily evolve into a den or TV room.
The upper level has 3 generous bedrooms with a family style washroom, an extra room off the 2nd floor has been plumbed for a washer and dryer. The upper level has another master bedroom overlooking the back yard. The builder was thinking about the young families where children still need to be in close proximity to the care givers. The master has a large walk in with a window that could double as a nursery. The ensuite is a 4 piece washroom with heated floors  with a floating vanity and custom tile work.
The main focal point has to be the staircase, Custom built for the home from a local contractor Derek Mach. It is a piece of art that finishes the home. I almost forgot to mention the rubblestone wall from the original foundation that was cleaned up to create a feature wall.
